The band was formed in 2004 to raise funding for the retreat facilities of Prinknash Abbey. The broad reach of Benedictine hospitality is reflected in the ecumenical background of Peterfolk members.

It also raises funds for other selected ecumenical charities, including:

Our full range of instruments includes: fiddles, flute, piano accordion, guitar, bass guitar, and drums.

The band works exclusively with its own callers.
